ABOUT
for creatives, by creatives
Velvet is a short film directed by two Boston College seniors, Lola and Frances, rooted in the struggles we feel as creatives in noncreative environments––school, work, and social groups.
We so often feel trapped and suffocated in spaces that fail to nurture our creative desires and dull our imagination. We begin to crave reinvention, not just as a change of style or form, but as a reclamation of self.
In many ways, the project has become a mirror of our own process––an attempt to break free from stagnation by leaning into the surreal, absurd, and unapologetically bold.
Your generous contribution would fund equipment, costumes and props, shooting locations, and ensuring all of our crew members are well-supported during the process. We hope to illuminate the importance of creative freedom and authenticity through this surrealist portrayal of our true creative process.

the story
Velvet is a visceral and entertaining short film that blurs the line between reality and the surreal. a fusion between a music video and narrative short film, the project features an original song, choreography, and visual worlds.
In a drab and monotonous world, a Plain Girl loses touch with her creative identity. When a strange magazine catches her eye, she flips through it and transports into a series of aberrant spreads, each with a critique on culture today.
With every page, she reclaims the bold parts of herself, previously dulled. Plain Girl emerges back to the real world transformed and reinvented.
